PLN #6: Issues In Global Warming

After hearing Michael Vartuli's speech on Global Warming, I feel that we need to be doing far more for our environment and its preservation. This issue is far more atrocious than I had ever imagined, and is only getting worse and worse each day. The facts are just astonishing! For example, I had no idea that the average American creates 4.7 pounds of waste each day, and that only 25 percent of plastic water bottles are recycled. America needs to be doing much more to help the environment, such as large-scale cleanup plans and carpooling.
Not only is it bad for the environment, global warming is very costly. Gas prices are rising constantly here in the US, taking a toll on each citizen's wallet. If we could carpool, however, this money could be saved and used somewhere more important. Also, it takes a lot of taxpayer money to pay for environmental cleanups and trash cleanups, which could be more effectively used somewhere else. We wouldn't even have to clean up this mess if we hadn't littered in the first place!
Truly, Americans need to stop being so selfish and should start caring for the world around them. Not only would these efforts help the environment, but they would also be advantageously cost effective.Even just a little bit of recycling or carpooling each day could help make a huge difference!
